Scholarship Certificate ImageThe Bucks Beautiful Delaware Valley College Scholarships were awarded on April 11th, 2014. The scholarships were available for students attending Delaware Valley College and enrolled in the field of ornamental horticulture, landscape design or landscape contracting. Since 1999 Bucks Beautiful has awarded over $45,000 in educational scholarships.

Matthew JanischMatthew Janisch is a 2014 recipient of a $1,000 scholarship. He is a junior at Delaware Valley College. Throughout his life he has always been a self proclaimed “outdoorsman.” He is passionate about nature and he immerses himself in it. And he credits his family for this and his mom is here with him tonight. His parents taught him the importance of nature and taking care of wildlife. And this was essential to his decision to attend Delaware Valley College. And today, he works part time at a landscape nursery. This has all fed his enthusiasm and desire to pursue a career in Landscape Design and he is particularly interested in Landscape Architecture. Matthew has been described as being passionate, and exemplary in his quest for knowledge of the outdoor environment by his employer at Sweet Valley Landscape Supply and the Aboretum Horticulturalist at Schmieder Aboretum at Delaware Valley College says he has a wonderful CAN DO work ethic as a member of the Arboretum Crew. He is also involved in Apiery Society, Project Earth, Landscape Nursery Club and of course A Day, an event we all know and love in our community. So we look for big things in Matthews future and we proud to now be part of his journey.

Michelle McNuttOur second 2014 recipient is Michelle McNutt Senior at Delaware Valley College. She developed a passion for Horticulture in junior high spending a lot of her free time volunteering for her schools Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter. She spent a lot of her free time in the school’s agriculture room learning about Floral designs and arrangements. This led her to Delaware Valley College where she is majoring in the field of Ornamental Horticulture with a specialization in Floriculture. She is active with the Delaware Valley College Floral Society and she is a talented floral designer and “a knowledgeable all around horticulturalist with a promising future according” to her professor of Ornamental Horticulture. She is working for Tri-Valley Blooms for weddings as well as at the college’s Henry Schmieder Aboretum creating beautiful planters and helping to manage the living laboratory of 200+ species of annuals to help pay for her college education. After she graduates she hopes to work in the Floriculture field. We are proud to present Michelle with this $1,000 scholarship, one small step to helping her reach her goal to someday open her own florist shop and to have a section on interior plants to educate the public on the importance of plants in the home as air purifers.
